What we do
Meet the team
Kushal India is redefining maternal care in rural India by advancing pregnancy wellbeing, physical health, and mental wellness through a grounded, community-driven approach. At the heart of our model is a thoughtful integration of local support and accessible technology—creating trusted spaces where women can share experiences, exchange knowledge, and support one another.
When women engage with Kushal, they gain reliable and actionable health information, equipping them to make informed choices about their care. This fosters greater autonomy and confidence, leading to improved outcomes for both mothers and children, and strengthening the fabric of their communities over time.
Supporting this effort are Kushal-trained community focal points—local women equipped with digital tools and resources to guide their peers through pregnancy and early motherhood with compassion, clarity, and care.
Embracing Pregnancy Wellbeing & Wellness
Kushal arranges weekly well-being workshops in Bengali, facilitated by trained social entrepreneurs deeply embedded in the community. These workshops create a space for pregnant women to share their experiences, emotionally support each other, and learn ways to stay physically and psychologically healthy.
Breaking the Digital Gender Divide
Kushal is addressing the issue of the digital gender divide by providing training workshops for women on internet use and navigation. As part of this initiative, digital resources have been developed to guide pregnant women on using smartphones and accessing Kushal's web resources. The main goal of this program is to empower women digitally, enabling them to have greater access to livelihood support and education.
Storytelling as Therapy
Kushal's approach centres around the art of storytelling. Our workshops employ the power of stories for therapeutic storytelling and narrative therapy, drawing on the rich oral storytelling tradition within communities. This fosters peer support and helps improve the content in an ongoing manner.
Culinary Accounts
Our society tends to focus on immediate solutions when it comes to the health and nutrition of pregnant women and new mothers. However, we could adopt a more comprehensive approach that encourages lifelong healthy habits. This can be achieved by promoting nutritious recipes and targeted food distribution. By distributing food packs, we harness the power of storytelling to share culinary experiences and cultivate healthy eating habits.
